Roaming Fruit Seller - بائع فواكه متجول
This guy uses a horse to pull his cart. They usually sell their goods for less than the market price.
Boiled Corn Cobs Seller - بائع ذرة مسلوقة
In comparison to the roasted corn, these guys are not stationary. They roam and sell their corn cobs that rest for ever in the big bowl in which is constantly heated by a fire underneath it. The lamp "Lux" is a common feature among many curbside roamers.
The Popcorner - بائع البوشار
With the standard phone booth like cart. The sound of popping corn and its smell is always a delight. This kid apparently is having a slow night, and trying to get himself busy with something else.
The good thing about popcorn here: no butter (Yuch!!)
Roasted Corn Man - بائع الذرة المشوية
He is probably one of the very few who roasts corn cobs. All the others deal with boiled cobs. And is there every night roasting constantly with a cardboard in his hand, and a tea pot constantly on the heated charcoals.
He disappear in the autumn and winter time when there is no corn spending the days working on his "suzuki" and taking the afternoons off.
Shoemaker - الإسكافي
I think this trade has disappeared from regular shops and moved to the streets. There was a shoe repairer near where we live but he transformed his shop into something else.
It seems to me that very few nowadays go to repair their shoes as opposed to getting a new pair. But maybe for some of the underpriviliged, this would make a better option.
This guy and others are to be found in the "theifs' market" سوق الحرامية near the old city castle.
Lottery seller - بائع يانصيب متجول
This fella is the travelling version of Lottery ticket sellers. They differ in that they follow you and try to force you to buy a ticket. What is more they try to sell their stub too (sellers have a seperate lottery too) for extra money. This is true especially when it is New Year lottery (big money prize).
Copper Whitener - المبيّض
This is the copper whitener. I have posted it before somewhere else. He has been in the neighborhood for years going from one house to another asking if there is anything made from copper that need to be whitened.
As shown he uses the pavement to burn the fire and make the solution for his job.
Intro
This is the new blog of mine.
I have decided to make a photolog of different Careers seen on the curbsides, and beyond.
I don't promise a daily update.
I don't promise a personal C.V. of the person being shot (as in shooting a photo) being published.
I will try to make comments anyway.
